TheWickedbook was greatly changedwhen it was adapted for Broadway, including the friendship being brought to the forefront.
In 2024,Wickedwas revitalized with a movie adaptation, based on the show rather than the book.
TheWickedcastis stunningly led by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-Butera as Elphaba and Galinda/Glinda, respectively.
Elphaba immediately calls Galinda out as a panderer to others' opinions and dismisses her.

Galinda saves the moment by stepping up and dancing with Elphaba in a beautiful, instinctive display of reconciliation.
“Defying Gravity” begins with them voicing the things about the other that truly do frustrate them.
Elphaba flees, leaving Glinda as Madame Morrible’s only sorcery student.
Wicked adapts the Broadway musical into a two-part film, following the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, born with green skin, and Glinda, a popular aristocrat, in the Land of Oz. As they navigate their contrasting paths, they evolve into Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
“Defying Gravity”
Elphaba and Glinda criticize each other for respectively fighting and complying with the Wizard.
In the time Elphaba has been on the run, she has not seen Glinda at all.
What results is a slapstick fight that effectively captures their chaotic feelings.
They receive news of Fiyero’s supposed death and are both heartbroken.
Elphaba then confronts Dorothy and is supposedly melted.
However, she does not know that both Elphaba and Fiyero survived and fled Oz together.
From a distance, Elphaba and Glinda again remember their friendship.
Wicked: For Good is the sequel to the 2024 film adaptation of the popular Broadway stage musical.
