Sling Blade is a 1996 American drama film written and directed by Billy Bob Thornton, who also stars in the film. The story follows Karl Childers, a mentally challenged man who is released from a psychiatric hospital after being institutionalized for murder. Karl returns to his hometown and befriends a young boy and his mother, but his simple and naive nature is soon disrupted by a menacing figure from his past.
