During the main timeline ofWicked, Dorothy is still in Kansas.
However, the rest of the movie is not meant to focus on Dorothy.
Instead,Wickedfollows the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, who meet as students at Shiz University.
The two friends are students at Shiz University years before Dorthy arrives in the land of Oz.
The 1995 novel is actually set 40 years before the events ofThe Wizard of Oz.
However, theWickedmovie timelineis different from the book.

Will Dorothy Play A Bigger Role In Wicked 2?
This seemingly confirms that Dorothy will have a bigger role in the upcoming sequel.
Wicked: For Goodwill be released on November 21, 2025 and will conclude Elphaba and Glinda’s stories.
Additionally, it is currently unknown whether the sequel will actually show Dorothy’s face.
