This can be attributed to the absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Instead,Moana 2s songs were penned by the writing duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.
When it was retooled as a movie, Barlow and Bears songs were already well underway.

Butthe sequels soundtrack is missing that Miranda magic.
But a couple of them are bona fide masterpieces that belong in Disneys hall of fame.
Disney submitted “Beyond” and “Can I Get A Chee Hoo?”
for Best Original Song at the 2025 Oscars, but neither were nominated.

In Mana Vavau, Dwayne Johnson deftly conveys Mauis fear and desperation as he finds a lifeless Moana.
But arguably the best song inMoana 2is Beyond.
