Jim Carrey has finally completed his full transformation into Doctor Robotnik inSonic the Hedgehog 3, and it was worth the wait.

Throughout the threeSonic the Hedgehoglive-action movies, Jim Carrey’s performance has been one of the most acclaimed parts, with him bringing a level of energy and comedy that harkened back to his early days in film.

His character bore very little physical resemblance to the iconic character, and while the end of the film did show a more accurate portrayal, he still wasn’t quite there.

Jim Carrey’sRobotnik got a lot closer inSonic the Hedgehog 2, and while the clothes and persona were better, he was still missing the weight of the original villain.

It Is Better Than The Previous Two Iterations

Out of all three portrayals of Robotnik seen throughout the trilogy, the one seen inSonic the Hedgehog 3is closest to the one in the video games by far.Sonic the Hedgehog 3finally brings all the pieces together, withRobotnik having the weight, mustache, clothes, and attitudethat he has become known for in the games.

While Robotnik was definitely weird in the firstSonic the Hedgehogmovie, he has become the bang out of weird that is seen in the video games in the third film, with his quirks coming from his hatred of Sonic and his despair over his frequent losses.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3even goes further with Robotnik’s inventions, giving them the signature staples of Robotnik’s inventions from the video games.

Almost every invention seen inSonic the Hedgehog 3is based on an animal or sports the iconic Eggman logo, something that was seen in fewer instances in the first two films.

Jim Carrey’s Doctor Robotnik is a shockingly accurate adaptation of the video game character, with his portrayal in the third film blowing his previous two takes on Robotnik out of the water.

He Is Finally What The Character Should Be

Although it took several years and two movies to get there, waiting for Jim Carrey’sDoctor Robotnik to evolve made his final appearance inSonic the Hedgehog 3even better.

Since 2020’sSonic the Hedgehogwas set in a fairly grounded world, having a character as eccentric as the Robotnik from the video games would have felt strange, with him feeling out of place.

However, by slowly building up toSonic the Hedghog 3’s Robotnik, the character is far more believable by the time he is allowed to go all-out.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s post-credits scene introduces two new characters, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can continue this character introduction trend.

On top of that, properly explaining everything about Robotnik’s appearance makes the character’s story so much more interesting.

Throughout the trilogy, the viewer gets to see Doctor Robotnik properly transform into Doctor Eggman, a transformation that is finally completed inSonic the Hedgehog 3.
