Bones

Despite David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel’s enthusiasm to return, I am a bit skeptical about aBonesrevival.

I will admit, the news of the return of so many procedurals, such asSuitsandWhite Collar, is exciting as an avid procedural lover. That positive attention means that aBonesrevival is much more likely.Bones’iconic romance between Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) as well as each of its dynamic cases made it one of my favorite series and definitely worthy of more screentime, especially considering the actor’s enthusiasm to return.

Boreanaz expressed interest in aBonesrevivalrecently, with Deschanel and creator Hart Hanson not too far behind.Bonesdoes have a few unanswered questions that never got tackled after the show’s cancelation by Fox, and most of the cast seem to have openings in their schedule to return to the Jeffersonian.

However, despite all of the pieces aligning, I am still a bit worried that a revival ofBonescould ruin its amazing series finale years later.

The popular Fox procedural television series Bones ran for 12 seasons and ended in 2017, but there has been talk about a potential revival.

Bones Had A Great Series Finale & A Revival Risks Ruining That

A Revival Could Undo The Completed Character Arcs Of Bones' Main Cast

While a revival ofBonesis possible, the storyline of said revival could risk ruining the great finale the series had.

The finale was, in my mind, one ofBones’best episodes. Not only did the episode wrap up the Kovac arc once and for all, but it also highlighted why we fell in love with Brennan and the rest of the cast.Their strong emotional connection helped them all heal in some form throughout the series, which is showcased in this episode and is a large part of what made the show so compelling.

The series' main plot was left open-ended, with everything essentially returning to the status quo. Those arcs, though, were complete as each character readied themselves for new chapters in their lives.

A revival could accidentally ruin that as the new storyline could conflict with where the characters are now, destroying all of that progression.

Bones follows Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), a forensic anthropologist who teams up with FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) to solve crimes in the DC area. Using Brennan’s forensic knowledge, the pair work together to catch killers with the help of a team at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute.

The story could also end up damaging those connections between characters due to new conflicts and beats, taking away from the show’s core.

That being said, there is one way that, to me, would allowBones' revival to happen whilst keeping the original ending intact.

How A Bones Revival Could Happen Without Hurting The Original Ending

Bones' Revival Could Focus On Minor Characters, Like The Squinterns

TheBonesrevival could focus more on characters that did not get as much screen time initially, allowing the revival to happen without hurting the original ending.

The main cast all had completed arcs, but many of the side characters, includingBrennan’s interns inBones, did not.The revival could rotate through these characters, giving each of them the spotlight for a case that the original Jeffersonian group needs help with. That would not only let us see the characters we love again, but also give many of the Squinterns more development after so long in the background.

By doing this,Bones' revival can let us see our favorite characters without compromising their stories, instead showcasing how they pass that healing onward.

James Aubrey (John Boyd) would be another viable avenue for this, as his late arrival in season 10 gave him little time for that level of development. The revival could follow Aubrey as he takes on more responsibility in his new position while still going to Booth for advice, keeping the main cast involved.

Aubrey and Karen’s (Sara Rue) romance could also be explored as it was implied to only just be beginning during the finale.
