This included amemorable SAG speechwhen he won Best Actor where he boldly and somewhat controversially shared his career aspirations.
I know people dont usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.
Im inspired by the greats.
Im inspired by the greats here tonight.
So Im deeply grateful.
This doesnt signify that, but its a little more fuel.
Its a little more ammo to keep going.
Thank you so much.
Chalamet’s speech did not impact the Oscars 2025 outcome as voting had already wrapped.
However, it could have potentially swayed voters in his favor if the timing was different.
The reality is that Chalamet is arguably in a class of his own throughout history.
Chalamet lost that year to Gary Oldman forThe Darkest Hour.

He then became the first three-time nominee in the category under 30 the following year withJulius Caesar.
WhileBrando won an OscarforOn the Waterfront(1955), he was 30 by the time the ceremony happened.
This already puts Chalamet in a small circle that some of his idols and contemporaries could not accomplish.

Heath Ledger did have two Oscar nominations before he turned 30, but only one came in Best Actor.
Daniel Day-Lewis didn’t get his first Oscar nomination until he was 33 years old.
That’s not even one of Chalamet’s more impressive efforts.
Chalamet also headlinedWonkaand got a huge win as it legged out to over $630 million.
He’s also been part ofInterstellarandLittle Women, which both did very well at the box office.
Doing all that before he’s even 30 years old would make some current major movie stars jealous.
While Chalamet didn’t compare himself to Leonardo DiCaprio or Tom Cruise, they’re apt comparisons.
Martin Scorsese even wanted to work with him so much that they made a commercial together.
Having awardsorbox office success at a young age is more common.
Cruise and DiCaprio had some box office success but not the same Oscar recognition.
Daniel Day-Lewis had neither.
Perhaps this will be the time where he wins an Oscar.
If so,he’d be the second-youngest Best Actor Oscar winnerin history.
There’s also early work being done onWonka 2, which will bring the actor back as the chocolatier.
There’s no telling what other major franchises Chalamet could join to remain a box office star after that.
It would also be unexpected if Chalamet ditched his pursuit of working with some of the greatest directors.
Chalamet’s not on that level right now, but perhaps he will be in another decade or two.
Losing his second Oscar is not going to stop that.
If anything, it’s only adding fuel to his fire.
