Secondly, its the passion project of independent Latvian filmmakers backed exclusively by European studios.
A select number of non-English language productions have managed to overcome bias and receive nominations for Best Picture.
It could bring up the floodgates for internationally-produced animated features to be recognized consistently at the Academy Awards.
