Of course, thoughDisney took a unique approach toBeauty and the Beast, it wasn’t an original story.

Disney again took a stab atBeauty and the Beastin the 1950s.

An animated film just wouldn’t have competed, soBeauty and the Beastwas again set aside.

Still, even this project very nearly turned out differently.

The writers experimented with some different characters.

Gaston would have had a co-villain as well, Belle’s own aunt Marguerite who despised Maurice.

The next batch ofBeauty and the Beaststoryboards were far lightermore enchanted and whimsical.

This is how the movie came to have its excellent score and musical numbers.
