An early story onSupernaturalfor Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) shared many aspects with another storyline within theBuffy The Vampire SlayerspinoffAngel.Many ofSupernatural’sbest episodesfocused on the fantastic monsters, lore, and action as well as the unbreakable bond between the Winchester brothers, weaving the two together often to increase the series' emotional and even physical tension.
However,the Winchester’s individual stories also helped amplify that tension, with Sam’s ever-shifting arc shaping many of the early events of the series.
Sam’s story inSupernaturaloften seemed to mirror Dean’s (Jensen Ackles), especially as the two brothers were used by Heaven in Hell in the first few seasons of the show.Sam’s associations with Hell not only complicated his arc but also allowed the series to naturally increase the stakesas both angelic and demonic forces closed in on the brothers.
One particular aspect of that storyline was Sam’s prophetic visions, which both hinted at the chaos to come and mirrored the arc of another well-known fantasy series that had a demon-based character with visions.
Supernatural Sam Winchester & Angel’s Doyle Both Had Visions About Future Cases
Doyle Was A Half-Demon Which Granted Him The Power Of Precognition
Both Sam fromSupernaturaland Allen Francis Doyle (Glenn Quinn) fromAngelhad the ability to see the future, which assisted them in their cases but caused them personal turmoil.Sam’s psychic abilities began to manifest in season 1, but the series did not reveal the cause of them until the second season, which properly introduced Azazel (Fredric Lehne).
It is then revealed that Sam is one of the Special Children who, after being fed demon blood as a baby by Azazel, had special abilities and could be a possible host for Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino).
Supernatural succeeded Buffy the Vampire Slayer in terms of release, but there are also several other ways that Supernatural improved over Buffy.
Sam’s abilities bear some resemblance to Doyle’s, as his psychic powers also stem from a demonic source.Doyle was a half-Brachen demon who was Angel Investigation’s connection to the Powers That Be, using his visions to aid the group.
Unfortunately, Doyle dies at the end of the series' first season, passing his visions ontoBuffy The Vampire Slayers’Cordelia(Charisma Carpenter).

The series follows the adventures of Dean and Sam Winchester - two men wronged by supernatural beings as children who now spend their days investigating and hunting demons, ghosts, and monsters across the United States.
Doyle’s visions, while helpful, caused him great personal discomfort, adding to his fear of his demonic side and creating another connection to Sam inSupernatural.
Sam Winchester & Doyle Both Struggled To Resist Their Demonic Powers
Both Characters Experienced And Feared The Corruptive Aspects Of These Abilities
Both Doyle and Sam had to resist temptation and come to terms with their demonic sides inSupernaturalandAngel,with one experiencing the negative side effects of those abilities more thoroughly.Sam’s struggles to resist his powers end swiftly in season 3 after Dean’s death, resulting in him teaming up with Ruby (Genevieve Padalecki) and getting addicted to demon blood.
Though he does it for altruistic reasons, Sam is ultimately consumed by that power, which leads him to fall into Hell at the end of season 5.
Ultimately, that storyline was cut off after Doyle’s death but was still able to create yet another parallel between theBuffyspinoff andSupernatural.
Doyle also goes through similar struggles inAngel,but it is not as deeply explored as Sam’s early arc.After learning of his demonic heritage, Doyle’s former life falls apart,allowing him to join Angel Investigations and forcing him to use his demonic abilities at times to help battle one ofAngel’sbest “Big Bads”.
Even so, Doyle struggled with that part of his identity, which caused a rift between him and Cordelia.
Ultimately, that storyline was cut off after Doyle’s death, but was still able to create yet another parallel between theBuffyspinoff andSupernatural.
