Dragon Ballsfranchise expanded with its latest installment,Dragon Ball Daima, in late 2024.

Stephanie Nadolny: Its amazing.

Stephanie Nadolny: It was easy for me.

Dragon Ball Super Master Roshi Power Kamehameha

How many times do you have to re-record lines sometimes?

Does it get difficult?

Stephanie Nadolny: You know… Weve been working together now since [about] last July or August.

Gohan, from the scene where he first transforms into Super Saiyan 2, stands in focus with Goku and Veneta behind him.

So, we have a nice little chemistry going.

We took a big break for the holidays and got back in the studio.

I love every minute of it… A lot of people are calling Daima a love letter to Toriyama.

One Piece screenshots from the anime cut together showing Luffy Shocked while an injured Zoro and Giants with Shanks are in the background.

How would you describe Daima in comparison to GT or the original Dragon Ball?

Stephanie Nadolny: Absolutely.

First of all, the technology, even with the animation, has progressed quite a bit.

The animation is just beautiful.

The music is fantastic.

I think hes phenomenal.

Anime

Im actually learning it myself.

Im going to get the written Japanese lyrics, and I want to learn it in Japanese.

Just to do something unique.

Dragon Ball

I really miss my singing days.

So, Ill learn it on the piano and just do something fun for the fans.

Not for compensation at all, just for fun.

Or anything fun or funny that happened?

So, for me, Ive never seen them.

Im watching them with the fans, like brand new.

I dont have any secrets, its all like watching it together.

So, particularly for Episode 9…

So, its really neat.

So, then I saw that episode, and I was like, Aw!

It was a special moment for me.

Im not a director, but I have ideas.

Sometimes Ill read the line in a way the director hadnt thought of, and hell like it better.

And if he likes it, we move on.

So, it just depends on the line.

Stephanie Nadolny: Having not had that reference before, then yeah.

But for me, hearing it first helps me for several reasons, one being the timing.

The second, watching the [mouth] flaps because they have to match.

What I attempt to do is memorize the line, then deliver it the way I see fit.

Because he may like B, he may like A.

If he doesnt like either one, we just start over, and hell say why.

But weve been getting through it pretty quickly.

Im really impressed with how were moving right through the episodes.

Were really kicking some booty.

A lot of fans do know that the Super Saiyan 4 transformation is coming.

Do you have any plans that you’ve got the option to talk about?

Or any ideas on how you want to approach it?

Stephanie Nadolny: I dont have really any information other than the fact I know its coming.

Im going to do what I think is appropriate for it once I see it.

Have you had any prior discussions?

So that I could get a really good idea of how he plans to approach it.

We both care very much about the show.

We both absolutely want to honor Akira Toriyama and verify its good.

Were not going to rush anything and prep for it as the director sees fit.

A lot of people are saying its very distinctly Toriyama.

Stephanie Nadolny: In general, it is.

So just being able to go in and dive right in and really live vicariously through that character.

That opportunity I never thought would never happen.

Being given that opportunity is such atheres not a word to describe it.

Im very, very grateful and very focused on living in the moment because its a gift.

Shifting away from Daima… Gohan is a fan-favorite character.

Im curious: in Dragon Ball Z, what do you think was the most pivotal moment Gohan experienced?

Stephanie Nadolny: I think when he was in the Cell arcthe Cell Games.

That was a very big turning point, I feel, for the series as well.

I think it helped me kind of grieve a little more too in my real life.

But I like to think it was just my acting job…

It was a powerful performance, I didnt know that.

When you look back on it, how do you feel about it?

Stephanie Nadolny: Its kind of cathartic.

I think its really funny because my mom was asking me, So whats your characters name?

Do not say that.

So, it was a very happy, joyous memory that was created with all the time we had.
