But despite all the interest in the monster, he’s thus far been avoided.
With that in mind, Gigan does indeed still have opportunities to appear.
Were that to happen, he could feature as the main antagonist of a Monsterverse film.
But as for how he’d be implemented, that’s not exactly clear.
The 2004 film notably reinvented the kaiju, giving him a more nuanced backstory.
Later, the present-day Xilliens recovered Gigan’s remains and gave him brand-new cybernetic upgrades.
After all, both of the concepts it leans on exist in the Monsterverse.
LikeFinal Wars’Gigan, the Monsterverse’s Ghidorah is an alien that was defeated on Earth thousands of years ago.
On account of this, the Monsterverse could be best-served leaving Godzilla out of Gigan’s backstory.
Godzilla: Final Wars is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and follows humanity’s attempt to eradicate Godzilla, imprisoning him in the South Pole. However, new monstrous threats emerge, leading to an alliance with mysterious aliens called Xiliens, which conceals a greater danger, ultimately forcing Godzilla’s return.
Instead, it could copyGodzilla: Final Wars, allowing Mothra to serve as Gigan’s pre-existing enemy.
Doing so would further build on the Mothra mythos thatKing of the MonstersandGodzilla x Konghelped build.
One of those times may have involved an attack from Gigan.
Despite his fame,Gigan has never been the main villain of a Godzilla movie.
So, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Monsterverse continued that trend.
