This direction is promising, as there are a few notes the next outing must hit to be successful.

It is unclear whether other writers will offer input, and if so, which ones and how much.

Regardless,Good Omens’shortened season 3 can guarantee victory just by ticking a few boxes.

This is especially important with the Amazon series leaning away from Gaiman’s influence in its final outing.

Terry Pratchett’s iconic fantasy novel series has needed a screen adaptation for many years.

A similar TV show proves it would succeed.

Season 2 was slower than season 1, but that was welcome.

It is a good thing if TV shows can keep reinventing themselves.

This is sure to be a lot of fun.

Based on the bestselling novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens follows an angel and demon as they attempt to defy the forces of Heaven and Hell in order to avert the apocalypse. With Pratchett and Gaiman’s funny and irreverent style shining through, Good Omens stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as Aziraphale and Crowley, with a larger cast that includes John Hamm, Francis McDormand, and Michael McKean.

These softer moments throughout romantic ones and humorous ones were a revelation.

They proved that the series was varied, sincere, and emotionally mature.

The reveal ofBeelzebub’s romance with Gabriel was one of the most moving momentson television in 2023.

Good Omensseason 2 made this unlikely couple seem like a match made in heaven.

The irony of this is noted, since Beelzebub was the Leader of the Forces of Hell.

Dark fantasy is all the rage, and for good reason.

Horror is enjoying a much-needed comeback in fantasy circles.

A dark and gritty tone may be fashionable in modern TV shows, but it isn’t needed here.

It seems at first likeGood Omensis founded on an individualistic approach to morals.

…Good Omenshas vast and sweeping moral statements to make about the nature of love and kindness.

Its point is precisely that these statements apply to all people, rather than institutions.

It focuses on the daily kindness ofCrowley and Aziraphalewhile problematizing both heaven and hell.

Good Omens

A bit of action suits the show well, as season 1 demonstrated.

However,it is the human interest in the action that makesGood Omensbrilliant.

Focusing overly on explosions and destruction won’t help.

So, hopefully,an overabundance of action can be easily avoided.

Gaiman confirmed that “The plans for Armageddon are going wrong.

Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right” (viaBBC).

After all, there is no season 3 unlessCrowley talks to Aziraphaleat some point.

The next outing will finish adapting any source material from Gaiman’s and Pratchett’s unpublished sequel plans.

Good Omenswas published on May 10, 1990.

It must avoid leaving certain questions open-ended, as there likely won’t be an opportunity to answer them.

Spinoffs could happen down the line, but the overarching narrative ofGood Omenswill be complete.

It needs to go out on a high note that leaves nothing on the table.

After some deliberation, Aziraphale must process his own repressed feelings the way Crowley did.

This isn’t to say thatAziraphale has to change his mindor end up with Crowley.

Not even hell’s lowest lair could contrive a more hurtful thing to say.

It can’t be sidelined by another Armageddon plot.
